FF3 and Kubrick phplayer menu problem

Hi there,

Is anyone else experiencing problems with phplayer menus in Kubrick?

IE7 works ok, but Firefox 3.0.2 and Nav8 does not.

I've used Kubrick on a few Tikiwiki 1.9 sites and am experimenting with a R2.0 site before upgrading the others, but I need to get the menus working.

Any ideas?

Hmm, I use FF3 quite a bit when putting the themes together, and don't see any problem with phplayer menus. You can see at http://zukakakina.com that they work fine with the Kubrick theme, as with the other new themes. That site has been running Tiki 2.0 and is currently using Tiki 2.1 (just released).

I guess there is an installation or configuration difference that acoounts for the different behaviors, but don't really know what should be checked.

One thing that I should "advertise" more is that these theme files are being updated fairly regularly as bugs are found or improvements made. I'll put up some info about that. But in this particular theme/feature nothing has needed fixing.

Thanks Gary,

I haven't changed the CSS. I've tried various settings relating to menu, and can't think of what this might be. Any ideas on what configuration or installation differences I should review?

Thanks,

Rob

When you say the menu doesn't work, what is happening exactly? What displays and what doesn't display? I take it this is just a problem for Kubrick, and in other themes the menu works ok. Do you notice any other problems with the Kubrick theme?

Hi again,

I am using site identity (though i know this is not needed with Kubrick) 'cause I don't want to develop a custom header until I resolve the menu problem.

The logo is a link and it works.

The menu appears in white text. No hover or link activity works on the menu.

The site search on the header (lower right) does not work. I can't activate the cursor in the text field to type, and the "go" button doesn't work.

I changed themes to default2.css and the menu appeared worked. This seems to be just a Kubrick problem.

Take a look. brynsconsulting DOT com You will see that the site is empty. As I said I'm experimenting with it and don't want to invest much time till I know what hte problem with the menu is.

Many thanks,

Site Identity is fine to use with Kubrick, and actually recommended, as it's the easiest way to get some of the page-top content in place.

If the menu works ok in another theme (and the searchbox), then it would appear to be a theme issue, and could involve padding or other layout specs of the page top (kind of invisible intrusions blocking mouse access to underlying page parts — that sort of thing). But it's hard to say, and impossible to be specific, without actually seeing the site, I think. I checked your domain and got a can't-be-accessed error.

The Kubrick theme does work, as it does on my test sites and others where it's been installed. But the flexibility of configuration and so on can sometimes lead to problems.

Ok, I can understand how different installations could affect the performance of the theme.

Here is the URL for the site: http://brynsconsulting.com/tiki-index.php

As I said, i am experimenting. I want to get this theme working before doing any more to the site.

I haven't changed the css. I've only messed around with the various "look and feel" options, so far.

Re-edit: I noticed a 1 pixel break between the header and body - only when logged in. I thought it was just a glitch in the png/jpg but when looking the site over in IE, I noticed that the header/body match is smooth. I wonder if this is an indication of the "invisible intrusions" you mentioned.

Hi Gary,

I've got to pick this up again. I went over to http://themes.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Kubrick and the menus were not working there either.

The menus are visible, but the hover and link does not work. I thought this was just my setup/installation as you suggested, but now I wonder whether it is my FF3 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3) .

Maybe a plugin? Pluggins in my FF3 include: yslow, firebug1.2.1, Fast Video Download 1.6.1, Flashgot 1.1.1.6, Web Developer 1.1.6, editcss0.3.7, Colorzilla 2.0

Has anyone else noticed this peculiarity?

Sorry, there was a problem with the stylesheet. The div that holds the logo and banner ad in the header area (div#sioptions) was too tall, and overlapped the menu. This prevented Firefox from recognizing the mouse hovering over the menu items. Apparently browsers interpreted this overlap differently. Also, this problem only came up when the custom code box wasn't used. Anyway, I removed that div's height property (don't think it's needed really), so the problem should be solved.

The Kubrick package has the updated file, or you can get it at this link: kubrick.css (or just remove height: 176px; at about line 273 of your kubrick.css).

Fabulous!!!! Thanks for the fix. I'll now start migrating a couple of sites that use kubrick to 2.0

again, thanks
