General question about blog template

Hi All,

Version: Tikiwiki 1.9.7
OS: Linux

In a nutshell, I cannot effect the appearance or structure of the blog feature beyond using CSS. I changed sections in tiki-view_blog.tpl and even moved the file to another directory. Still, the blog page is totally unchanged. The same is true of tiki-view_blog_post.tpl. I renamed and even relocated this file as well. The only thing that seems to effect this blog page is if I rename the entire templates directory. I did do that to be sure I was even working in the right search path for template files.

I have also cleared all the cache areas through the System Admin screen and even deleted everything under templates/en via SSH.

Any pointers would be appreciated because to me this seems to defy all logic.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Steve

Yes, that defies logic. Clearing the Smarty template cache should do the trick.

How about trying with the built-in Tiki template editor? (to edit the .tpl web-based instead of FTP)

M 😉

Actually, I hadn't thought about using the internal template editing. VI is just a default for me when it comes to editing. That's a good suggestion. My thought was that maybe there was some sort of prioritized pathing going on I wasn't aware of and was editing the wrong files. Using the TikiWiki editor should ensure I am editing the correct files.

I'm right in the middle of relocating the site so it is going to be a little bit before I can give that a go.

Are you working on the default tiki-view_blog.tpl file (in templates/ directory)? Some themes have their own version (in the templates/styles/[themename]/ directory), which has priority over the default version.

Actually, I had placed my versions in the directory you reference in the hope that it was a priority directory taking precedence for theme specific changes. No joy.

I'm in the midst of relocating the site now. I think what I'm going to do when I'm done is just take a step back and try starting over more methodically. For one thing I'm not going to set the "CDPATH" variable at the new location which may have confused things for me as well. (In one place when I thought I was in another maybe) 😕

Thanks for the thoughts,
Steve
